A website only has the option for the editor to add and edit the content that is displayed. This is beneficial in many ways as a way of incorporating into a classroom. My website that I have created using Google Sites is quite functional through the simplicity it uses. This may change as I continue to experiment with the site, but at the moment I have embedded YouTube clips using code and URL, inserted images and documents from Google Drive, as well as embedded my own Blog page. The web page that I have created titled 'Week 3 Engagement Activity' focuses on the activities but will be useful in demonstrating my students with what I started with when first experimenting and creating with Google sites as well as providing a little bit of an insight of using Digital Websites such as Google Sites.
By showing this simple website as one of the first I have created to my students, it could help them to aim further to include content and experiment further. As a Google Site is a website, it is not a type of digital space that can be edited by others, but sharing the published link allows people it is shared with to view it. This means that they are not a collaborative digital space, however, could be made so by making a common Google Account or working together on the one device.
Substitution:
Students are given a printed Geography work sheet of a web quest created by the teacher. They have spaces on the work sheet to fill in the answers and some recommended websites to follow to find the answers.
Augmentation:
Once students are finished their work, they are able to use a word processing software to type up the questions and answers and include a few relatable images. Once finished, it can be emailed to the teacher for checking and marking.
Modification:
The task is modified to become more interactive and uses the Google Site that the teacher has created that is a more exciting replica with images, videos and graphics for students to follow to find the answers the questions. Students are also required to create their own website that responds to these questions and activities.
Redefinition:
Students are required to use resources beyond what has been given to them on the teachers Geography Website. They must answer in their own words as well as analyse their response and embed their own images, videos and other resources to make their site exciting and interactive. They are required to share their sites with their pairs and view and provide feedback of what they have produced.
