Over the years, there has been a lot of research, studies, and conclusions made regarding different methods of pedagogies. Pedagogy refers to the art and science of teaching but should be developed in considering the outcomes for students (Moodle Content Week 2). Education Queensland (2000) have put together clear pedagogical principles that promote deep learning and should be used to influence teaching practices. These principles put together by Education Queensland (2000) include:
- Using higher order thinking to facilitate deep knowledge
- Using collaboration activities to encourage conversations
- Help students to found out how they best learn
- Problem-based and real-life contextual learning
- Learning that connects to students background knowledge
- Owned, controlled and student managed learning
- Valuing cultural knowledge through learning
- Develops active citizenship and strong group identity
Each of these principles are important in considering how to get the most out of our students but it will be interesting to learn as a teacher how that we can best facilitate these strategies. Digital pedagogies could be considered as the art of learning using technologies. (Being able to use technology is an art within itself 😉)
